Heart To Heart Volunteer Meeting
The appointment of the office bearers of the Heart To Heart Volunteers group under the Trust Fund was concluded on the 20th of May 2018 with the participation of the two Co Founders and two Trustees.
Dr. Ruvan Ekanayaka chaired the meeting. 26 volunteers were present. He welcomed all volunteers and observed 2 minutes silence for our volunteer Tharindu who passed away on 19th of May. Dr. Ruvan explained the purpose of the meeting.
Trustee member (Mr. Aruna Shantha De Silva PC) explained in detail how to improve coordination between the Trustees and the Volunteers, to regulate the activities of the Volunteers and to provide a better recognition to the Volunteers and to appreciate the work of the Volunteers. He requested each volunteer to introduce at least five volunteers to the group.
Dr. Ruvan and Dr. Rajitha explained that our vision is that no Heart patient requiring surgery should die because of a lack of funds, the fund should extend its assistance beyond the hospital to private hospitals as well. Mr. Aruna Shantha De Silva explained the operational mechanism. Any volunteer who wishes to organize an event must obtain the approval of the Group at a duly summoned committee Meeting. When the proposal is approved, the Group may implement the proposal subject to the approval of the Trust Board.
Kiran was interested in the aspect if fundraising and requested a discussion with the cricketeing celebrity Mahela Jaywardena regarding the cooperate sector. Dian to prepare a paper on the concept of the Cardiac Club with Dr. Rajith. New volunteer Premanada shared his experiences of helping people at village level about cardiac issues.
Mr. Aruna Shantha, Dr. Ruvan and others agreed to provide humanitarian assistance to heart patients in SJGH who are in urgent need of such assistance. The Social Service Coordinators Matron Kala & Sister Nandani will coordinate with them if and when the need occurs. All members shared their ideas with much pleasure and enthusiasm. The Executive Committee meeting will be held on June 23 at 10.00 am at SJGH Ward 20.
