Breakdown of Patients aided per Province at 2021 November
With the exception of the year 2017/2018 patients from the Western Province have largely dominated the list of beneficiaries (as the number of rejected applications is negligible in the period under review). It can be concluded that except for the year 2017/2018 over 50% of applications and hence of beneficiaries had been from the Western Province. It is also to be noted that for the entire period under review the beneficiaries from the Northern and Eastern Provinces have been respectively under 2%. The Uva Province too accounted for less than 3% of our beneficiaries.
Breakdown of Patients aided per gender at 2021 November
The Male:Female ratio of beneficiaries has consistently around 2:1
Breakdown of Patients aided Age Category at 2021 November
Taking the period as a whole it can be said that 39% of beneficiaries have been in the age bracket of 50-69. Age group 40-49 comes next, accounting for 18% of our beneficiaries.
Breakdown of Patients aided per Employment Category at 2021 November
Persons who are not employed (such as dependent women and other dependent elders who do not contribute to family income) have consistently accounted for more than 50% of our beneficiaries. While these persons are obviously not the breadwinners of the family, by supporting their surgeries we have to that extent provided relief to the breadwinners of those families who are ethically, morally and emotionally obliged to look after them in illness.
Breakdown of Patients aided per Type of Hospital at 2021 November
Over 95% of our beneficiaries have undergone surgery at the Sri Jayawardenapura General Hospital (SJGH) which is a fee levying semi government hospital where the cost of a surgery is on average 40-50% lower than what it would cost at a fully private hospital. The SJGH provides a very interesting model to take the load off the huge demand for heart surgeries and its attendant waiting period (1-2 years) encountered at the non fee-levying state hospitals that undertake heart surgeries.
Breakdown of Patients aided per Type of Surgery as at 2021 November
Bypass surgeries have accounted for roughly 80% of all surgeries supported by the Trust during the period under review.
